Fashion gets a hands-on chapter

The Library’s festival fashion program connected its collections with an activity readers could make their own.

Fashion had a place among the National Book Festival’s August 22 programs. The Library of Congress listed a Family Day devoted to its fashion collections, pairing collection imagery with a bead-bracelet activity and fashion giveaways.

That pairing opens a different route into style: looking at the historical record, then making something yourself. It belongs beside runway coverage because fashion also lives in materials, experimentation and small personal choices. The festival program documents the date and planned activity; it does not establish how many bracelets were made or what participants thought.
