Martínez gives the Spirit a late winner

Washington won 1–0 at Seattle on May 10, with Claudia Martínez scoring in the 84th minute from a Gabrielle Carle assist. The Spirit’s match report records a late breakthrough after a scoreless first half and a clean sheet for goalkeeper Sandy MacIver.

The late goal gives this result its shape: patience, a level scoreboard, and then a Washington finish before the whistle. The earlier and later May meetings tell a connected story without turning every repeat opponent into a major rivalry.
