Hershfelt settles the rematch at Audi Field
Washington Spirit 2, Seattle Reign 1: the second May edition adds a home result.
Washington Spirit 2, Seattle Reign 1
League matchup · Seattle is a repeated opponent in this May coverage. Gotham is the Spirit’s documented regional rival.
The Spirit beat Seattle 2–1 at Audi Field on May 30. Leicy Santos scored in the 18th minute, Seattle drew level through an own goal before halftime, and Hal Hershfelt supplied Washington’s winner in the 81st minute from a Trinity Rodman assist.
The late goal gives this result its shape: patience, a level scoreboard, and then a Washington finish before the whistle. The earlier and later May meetings tell a connected story without turning every repeat opponent into a major rivalry.
